Meet Christina—
With over 20 years of experience in education, Christina has served as a teacher, leader, professor and advisor. She has spent her career working in historically underserved communities, with a strong commitment to educational justice and collaborative leadership. As the Superintendent and Co-CEO of Explore Schools Inc., leading 8 schools and 360 staff members, she emphasized the values of recognizing students as individuals with limitless potential and promoting collaboration to establish effective systems that provide excellent education for all students.
Christina has supported individual schools and networks in scaling their impact. She has guided them in defining excellence within their communities and creating strategic plans that prioritize positive change with equity at the forefront. By fostering collaborative problem-solving and conducting thorough evaluations of best practices and research, Christina has successfully led initiatives that have yielded notable improvements in student achievement, leader and staff retention, and increased satisfaction among families. Outside of her coaching and working with educational leaders, Christina resides in Brooklyn with her partner, Chuck, and their two dogs, Mika and Winnie. In her free time, she enjoys engaging in reading, making art, and exploring new restaurants in the neighborhood.
Christina’s career has been defined by results. Here are a few recent highlights:
Achievement Results. Improved New York State Math Assessment results by 26% and ELA by 15% over the course of two years (2017 to 2019). Tripled, and in some cases quadrupled percent of proficient students with IEPs and multilingual learners in that same time period.
School Culture: Decreased student suspension rates by 50%.
Recognition. Four of eight schools named “Recognition Schools” for outstanding growth by the New York State Department of Education within two years of leading as Superintendent.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Double digit improvement in staff satisfaction results aligned to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Increased diversity of senior leaders and staff across the organization.
Staff Retention. Designed and implemented strategy for addressing leadership and staff turnover, including pipeline programs leading to nearly 100% internal leadership hiring for 22-23 school year.
